Final Competition of the week!

May 27th, 2011 - Uncategorized

Today is the last day of our week of anniversary celebrations. We hope you’ve had fun with the competitions and enjoyed the translations and videos we’ve posted.
For our final competition, and the chance to win a basic prize pack, plus the Schrei Live 2006 DVD (including “One Night in Tokio” documentary) and a Ready, Set, Go! 7inch vinyl, we have something a little different for you :)

Below you will find 14 questions, split into two sets of seven. We want you to answer each question, and then re-arrange the FIRST LETTERS of each answer to form two words that are related to Tokio Hotel in some way. We’ve made things a little bit easier by splitting the questions into two sets. Each set provides the letters for a 7 letter word, and together, the two words make up the answer we’re looking for. So all you need to do is answer each set of questions, jot down the first letters of each answer, and then unscramble them to find the final answer!

Click “read more” for the two sets of questions, details of how to enter, and the winner of yesterday’s competition!

Questions for prize draw quiz:

Set One

1) Which song is particularly special to the twins as it’s about their twin relationship with each other?
2) In what country will Tokio Hotel be performing on June 3rd this year?
3) Which song video saw the guys driving cool cars across desert land?
4) Which film, starring David Bowie, has Bill often stated as one of his favourites?
5) The German version of Phantomrider is … ?
6) Complete the song title …….. Dir Kommt Nichts?
7) Who founded the Tokio Hotel UK Street Team?

Set Two

1) Which British production designer worked with Tokio Hotel on their stage design for the Humanoid City tour?
2) Fill in the missing word from this line of lyrics: The …….. of the city are counting the tears falling down?
3) What were the band called before they became known as Tokio Hotel?
4) What make of car did Bill and Tom take for a secret test drive?
5) What colour t shirt was Tom wearing in the video that he made to announce his blog? (one of their dogs stole the show, even though he was only sleeping in the background!)
6) At what London club did THUKST hold their 2009 Tokio Hotel party?
7) In which animated film did Bill do a voice over for one of the main characters?

Don’t worry if you can’t answer one of the questions. You may still be able to work out the final answer with the other letters that you have. Good luck!

Yam # 49, November 2006 – 1st concert in Russia

May 27th, 2011 - Uncategorized

Yesterday we had the Bravo article translation where Tokio Hotel attended the World Music Awards and then left for Russia the next day and for today we thought we’d follow it up with an article about that trip to Russia where they played their first concert in Moscow on 18th November 2006. As we all know – and are excited about – Tokio Hotel will be going back to Russia very soon to perform at the MUZ TV Awards on 3rd June 2011. So to get even more excited and with dedication to all of our Russian friends, let’s have a read about that first concert in Moscow…

THE FIRST TIME… IN RUSSIA

TH-premiere in Moscow!
Yam reveals what Bill, Tom & Co experienced during their stay

Top row of pictures:
1) Moscow: Tokio Hotel’s triumphant procession continues here…
2) VIP visit: Gustav (18), Georg (19), Bill (17) and Tom (17) are guests of their Russian record label
3) Premiere: the first Russian Tokio Hotel concert took place at Moscow’s Luzhniki (pronounced: Luschniki) sports complex on 18th November 2006
4) A crowd at the merchandise stand: TH shirts are high in demand amongst Russian girls!
5 – page 2) Exaggerated? Security only let half as many fans right in front of the stage as intended
6 – page 2) Expensive: TH fans had to dig deep into their pockets: the tickets cost between €45 and €300!

Left, Bill picture: Very hard-working: Bill even learned a few bits and pieces of Russian for their first gig in Moscow
Twins picture: Tense: Bill and Tom seemed a bit nervous at first
Bottom live picturee: Too late: The TH gig only started after a half an hour delay, even though in Russia, Germans are especially well-known for their punctuality.

18th November 2006. It’s a grey, rainy Saturday. It’s damn cold. Nevertheless the atmosphere is heated– as always when a TH concert is on the agenda! Fans make their way to the venue, warm up their vocal chords and are looking forward to [seeing] Bill & Co. Actually [there’s] nothing new so far, right? Yes, there is! Because this time the concert is not taking place in Germany where the band has performed numerous times before but in Russia! That meant leaving London after the World Music Awards ceremony to go straight to Moscow early in the morning. It’s a baptism by fire for TH who have never been on stage there before. TV and radio channels are still a bit reluctant when it comes to promoting the band even though the guys were immediately presented with a gold record for their album “Schrei” by their Russian record label on Friday. “We fans collect most of our information on the internet”, Anja (13) and her mother Tanja (46) tell. Those two have known about the gig at the Luzhniki sports complex for a long time already and have secured their tickets early on. “However, they were relatively expensive; one had to fork out €300 for VIP tickets!” TH fever also took over Russia – despite expensive ticket prices. It really did! Every movement the roadies make on stage already gets commented with screams by the 6,500 fans shortly after the doors opened. At 6.30pm the moment has finally come! Despite the deafening cheers a certain tension amongst the band can be noticed when they enter the stage with “Jung und nicht mehr jugendfrei”. After all TH don’t know how the Russian fans will react to their German songs. However, all concerns are uncalled-for: the complete venue sings along right from the start! And there’s no holding them back anymore when Bill greets the audience with “kak dela“ (??? ???? = How are you?). Anja is overjoyed: “The concert is super!” The four guys are also thrilled after the gig: “The atmosphere was fantastic”, Bill gushes. He’s especially relieved that he managed to get his Russian announcement done without any major slips of the tongue. Have the boys tasted blood now? Definitely! Though they’re going back to Hamburg on Sunday already – there’s even supposed to be a real Eastern European tour in spring 2007…

P.S.: Today’s anniversary quiz will not be about the translation and will be posted seperately. :D

Four guys from Magdeburg conquer the world! Now Tokio Hotel accepted an award in London that’s turning them into international superstars: the World Music Award!

I could hardly believe that we’re even nominated,” Bill declares. “However, that we also would actually win this award was really unbelievable for me!

What an experience for Bill (17), Tom (17), Gustav (18) and Georg (19)! The four of them got personally invited to London – [they] are live at the glamorous ceremony at Earls Court. There’s loads going on backstage: just now R’n’B superstar Beyoncé is on her way to perform, party it-girl Paris Hilton is tottering on high-heels through the hallways – accompanied by numerous cameras. Nelly Furtado is just getting some coffee with her band. And right in the middle [of all of this]: the guys from Tokio Hotel. There’s a sitting area in their lovely, small dressing room, fruit and beverages are available. Bill, Tom, Gustav and Georg get comfortable, have pizza and donuts brought to them and joke around. Their dressing room is situated between the ones of US star Lindsay Lohan and R’n’B singer Chris Brown. Michael Jackson is getting prepared for his appearance only a few steps away.

“Unfortunately he’s completely isolated. You don’t even realise he’s here,” Georg reveals.

And then the moment is finally here: after a long wait Tokio Hotel finally get presented with the much longed for award for the “Most successful German Band 2006”! [It’s] a great honour for the young rockers.

“We’re thrilled about it!” Tom says happily.

After the show the guys admire the golden statues in their hotel rooms.

“It’ll be placed next to my Bravo Otto [Award],” drummer Gustav grins.

Then they’re off to bed – because they’ve got to get onto a plane to Moscow at 8am already the following morning. Tokio Hotel will be playing a sold out concert in front of 8,000 people there. Their first one in Russia.

Bill gets very serious: “Even if we’re going through the roof everywhere abroad now, the German fans are the most important to us,“ he reassures. “That’s why we’re currently working flat out on the second album. We’ve already gotten very far; you won’t have to wait much longer…

Questions for prize draw quiz:

1) What country where Tokio Hotel going to the following day?
2) Who went to get coffee with their band?
3) Where in London did the award ceremony take place?
4) In what category did Tokio Hotel win the World Music Award?
5) Gustav said he’d put his award next to what German magazine’s award?

UK & Irish fans only, please email your answers to tokiohoteluk@gmail.com until midnight today.
Put “anniversary prize draw quiz day 4″ as the subject, include your first name and last name’s initial and where in the UK/Ireland you’re from.

Winner of Wednesday’s prize draw is Ellie P from Kent and the answers were:

1) Ready, set, go! It’s time to run
2) b) I am with you, I am here
3) Rescue Me
4) Zoom (into me)
5) Schrei
6) Wir wollten nur reden, und jetzt liegst du hier
7) Automatic
8) Durch den Monsun/Monsoon
9) Du bist, alles was ich bin und alles was durch meine Adern fließt
10) Sonnensystem

P.S.: The awards ceremony didn’t run all that smoothly and unfortunately the guys being presented with their award was axed from the show after it had overrun as it was described in this article posted on the Mirror Online site on 17th November 2006. Apparently it was Michael Jackson’s fault. XD

Jedward talking about TH – Focus.de & n-tv.de

May 26th, 2011 - Uncategorized

It seems the twins John and Edward from Jedward really know their Tokio Hotel stuff and talked about our guys several times during Eurovision. Focus.de posted an interview today where they were asked about Tokio Hotel and also kept singing some of TH’s songs for a bit (like in the video we linked earlier this week). It’s always great for us to see celebs from the UK and Ireland talk about Tokio Hotel. :D

FOCUS Online: Do you know Tokio Hotel?
John: (sings „running through the monsoon…“)
Edward: They are twins, we are twins. Many of our fans are Tokio Hotel fans. I’d really like to meet them now that we’re in Germany.
John: We’ve bought their CDs. They’ve got really good songs. I love “Automatic”.
Both: (sing “Automatic“ and know all of the lyrics)
Edward: I remember their performance at the MTV European Music Awards and how the rain came falling down on them. That was really great. And Bill’s got awesome hair!
John: Compared to us the twins from Tokio Hotel seems to be quite different. One of them has got beehive hair, the other one’s got dreadlocks. One of them sings, the other one plays the guitar. We, on the other hand, are really twins.

Here’s another mention from an interview with n-tv.de. After the interviewer asked them if they would like to record a song together with Lena (who won the Eurovision for Germany last year), it goes on with:

I want to know what other German artists except Lena they would know. “Tokio Hotel”, the answer comes quick as a shot. “I’ve got all their albums,” says Edward and once again turns into the interviewer: “Who else is really big in Germany?” After considering for a bit I only come up with Herbert Grönemeyer and Rammstein of all things who are probably the weirdest possible partners for a musical collaboration with Jedward that one can imagine. “I stick to Tokio Hotel. They’re also twins”; says John. It would be really cool to record a song with them”, Edward adds. “Yes, a meeting of the twins!”, John rejoices and sings “running through the monsoon” as if it was a done deal already.
