“WE HAD NOWHERE TO GO”
Backstage at ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’: Tom and Bill from ‘Tokio Hotel’ with BILD reporter Patricia Driese

Through the monsoon to the world: At the height of their success, twins Bill and Tom (23) left the “Tokio Hotel” Germany, and moved to Los Angeles. Now, after two years of silence, they are back in their homeland – as jurors on ‘Deutschland sucht den Superstar’ (Germany seeks the superstar)! Tom and Bill gave BILD their first interview on the set of the talent show.
BILD: Today you have already discovered talents?
Bill: Yes, there were some good people there …
Tom: But no killer. At least not today.
BILD: How do you get along with Dieter Bohlen?
Bill: We knew beforehand Dieter not personally, but have been looking forward to work with him for the anniversary season of ‘DSDS’. We got along really well right away and have a lot of fun.
BILD:You know the dark side of show business, which helps secure the casting, right?
Bill: I have also seen candidates, when I thought: No, that’s just not for you …
Tom: Those who just want to be famous go, me fully on the bag. Being famous is just a side effect, if someone can do something very well. If you can do nothing, you should not even be famous.
BILD: Two years ago, you had to leave Germany. How is your life in Los Angeles?
Bill: We have now tried for two years quite consistently, to hide. We wanted a place where we can retreat in private. We feel comfortable in L.A and live together with our four dogs.
BILD: Why did you flee, literally?
Tom: We were just five years on the road non-stop, and had nowhere to retreat. We really had the feeling that we have nowhere to go – it was eventually no matter where we sleep.
BILD: A terrible feeling …
Tom: Yes. Eventually it got to the point, where it was a bit much and then we thought, here can we ever go yet. Above all, we also wanted a place where we can finally be creative.
BILD: … and record a new album?
Tom: We simply feel really relaxed in LA making music – that has brought us artistically. Some of this people will never hear, but much already.
BILD: Is there already a date for a new album?
Tom: That’s in the works. We have so but time.
BILD:Where do you feel at home today?
Bill: Actually, always where our family is. Of course, our roots are in Germany, as always will be the feeling of home. But Tom and I, we can settle anywhere fast.
BILD:Bill, you visually also changed quite a bit , the skeleton tattoo on your hand is so blatant …
Bill: I’ve already started it early! I had my first piercing at 13, my first tattoo at 15. Tattoos I’ve always loved, in recent years, I could let me stand out, there was no time. Now I design it with a tattoo artist in LA.
BILD:You’ve got quite nice Muckis …
