Many thanks, Bernd. This morning we have “Exclusiv” presenter Kena Amoa with a TV sensation with us. Though, first of all: Good morning!
Woman 2: Morgen.
Morning.
Kena: Guten Morgen, alle… Bill und Tom Kaulitz: Neu in der DSDS-Jury. Wir sind elektrisiert und freuen uns auf Geschichten.
Good morning, everyone… Bill and Tom Kaulitz: New on the DSDS judging panel. We’re buzzing and are looking forward to some stories.
Woman 1: Ja. Yes.
Woman 2: Ja, Wahnsinn. Und das nach zwei Jahren, muss man ja sagen… absoluter Medienpause melden sich die Zwillinge zurück. Christina G.t und Roswitha M.-W. haben die Neuen an der Seite von Dieter Bohlen zum exklusiven Interview getroffen.
Yes, awesome. And one has to mention that this is happening after two years… the twins are back after [having taken] a break from the media. Christina G. and Roswitha M.-W. have met the new guys by Dieter Bohlen’s side for an exclusive interview.
Voice-over: Nach fast zwei Jahren sind sie zum ersten Mal wieder in Deutschland und vor einer Kamera: Bill und Tom von Tokio Hotel am Abend in Berlin. Die neuen Stars der DSDS-Jury. Für den Job haben sie sogar die Arbeit an ihrem neuen Album unterbrochen.
For the first time in almost two years they’re back in Germany and in front of a camera: Bill and Tom from Tokio Hotel in Berlin in the evening. [They’re] the new stars on the DSDS judging panel. For this job they even took a break from the work on their new album.
Bill: Wir haben ja jetzt echt ganz lange fast gar nichts gemacht… irgendwie in der Öffentlichkeit Wir haben ja uns komplett zurückgezogen und erm, wir freuen uns drauf jetzt irgendwie… ja, auch vor allem natürlich neue Talente, neue Künstler zu sehen und so’n bisschen vielleicht auch inspiriert zu werden für unsere Studioarbeit. Mal gucken.
We really have barely done anything for quite a long time… of any sort in the public eye. We completely retreated [from the public eye] and erm, now we’re looking forward to somehow… yes, of course to mainly see new talent, new artists and maybe to also get a bit inspired for our studio work by it. Let’s see.
Voice-over: Auch von Chef-Juror Dieter Bohlen wollen sie sich inspirieren lassen. Die Zwillinge freuen sich besonders darauf ihn endlich kennen zu lernen.
They also want to get inspired by main judge Dieter Bohlen. The twins are especially looking forward to finally getting to know him.
Bill: Ja, dann hat man, erm, so’n alten Hasen mit dabei, der halt schon das auch mehrere Jahre gemacht hat. Erm, der kennt das Format richtig gut. Der hat alle Staffeln gemacht. Der weiß genau worauf es ankommt. Erm, ja, und wir bringen einfach, glaube ich, noch mal so ’nen anderen Aspekt da mitrein und von daher, glaube ich, ist das die perfekte… perfekte Jury. Hoffentlich!
Yes, then you’ve also got him who’s such an old hand and he’s been doing this for several years now. Erm, he knows this [show] format really well. He did all the [previous] seasons. He knows exactly what it’s coming down to. Erm, yes and I think we’re just adding another aspect to the table and therefore, I think, this is the perfect… perfect judging panel. Hopefully!
Voice-over: Und die beiden haben sich schon vor Beginn der 10. Staffel vorgenommen eigene Akzente zu setzen.
And even before the 10th season started the two of them have already decided to set their own priorities.
Tom: Ich hoffe vor allem, dass auch mal weibliche Talente kommen. Es gibt insgesamt in Deutschland einfach zu wenige Künstlerinnen, finde ich.
I mainly hope that there’ll also be female talents for once. In general there are just too few female artists in Germany, I think.
Tom: Also… So…
Bill: Ja, also, ich würde mich auch freuen über, über Künstlerinnen. Also, Tom und ich, wir gucken vor allen, erm… auf…
Yes, well, I’d also be happy about female artists. Well, Tom and I, we’ll be mainly looking, erm… at…

Voice-over: Das wird sicher besonders die Kandidatinnen freuen und wer weiß, vielleicht begegnet Bill und Tom auf der DSDS-Bühne sogar der ein oder andere Fan, der ihnen vor sieben Jahren noch zugejubelt hat.
Surely that’ll make especially the female candidates happy and who knows, maybe Bill and Tom will even meet one or the other fan who cheered them on seven years ago on the DSDS stage.
Voice-over: 2005 starteten die Jungs aus Magdeburg ihre Erfolgsgeschichte. Sie sammelten Auszeichnungen wie Comet und Echo. Es gab allein 89 Goldene Platten. Vor zwei Jahren zogen sie sich dann in die USA zurück, doch für DSDS sind sie gern zurückgekommen.
The guys from Magdeburg started their success story in 2005. They collected awards like Comet and Echo. There were 89 Gold Records alone. Then they retreated to the USA two years ago but they happily returned for DSDS.
Bill: Wir haben immer gesagt, so, wenn wir Juroren werden in ’ner Sendung dann auf jeden Fall in dem Original, in dem klassischen Format. Erm, weil wir da auch am meisten dran glauben und es ist natürlich gut.
We always said, like, if we were to be judges on a show then it would definitely have to be for the original, the classic [show] format. Erm, because we also believe in it the most and it’s good of course.
Tom: Es ist ja fast die einzige Casting-Show wo auch die Künstler danach auch wirklich erfolgreich werden, so und erm, ich glaub’, das war uns auch wichtig irgendwie.
After all it’s almost the only casting show where artists also really became successful afterwards, like, and erm, I think that was also important to us somehow.
Voice-over: Heute wird’s ernst für die beiden. Die Vorbereitungen beginnen. Alles zu sehen bei DSDS ab Januar hier bei RTL.

Woman 1: … beginnen die Shows, aber bei den Castings vorher sind die beiden auch schon dabei, oder?
… the shows are starting [on TV in January] but both of them are also there for the castings prior to that, aren’t they?
Kena: Da sind die beiden auch schon dabei und da muss man sich vor Augen halten… Ich meine, die Fans, die 2005 „Durch den Monsun“ mitbekommen haben, na, die waren dann vielleicht so im Schnitt 12. Die stehen heute mit 19, 20 vor Bill und Tom und den schlackern wahrscheinlich tierisch die Knie, wenn die vor ihren damaligen Idolen vorsingen sollen. Also, das… da werden sehr spannende Sachen auf uns zukommen.
Yes, both of them will already be there for that and with that one has to keep in mind… I mean, the fans that were there for “Durch den Monsun” in 2005, well, they were probably around 12 [years old] back then. Aged 19, 20 these days they’re standing in front of Bill and Tom and probably their knees are totally trembling when they have to sing in front of their former idols. Well, that… some very exciting things will be coming our way.
Woman 2: Ja, wirklich ’ne ganz große Nummer. Wir haben’s auch eben gesehen: die beiden haben ja echt in kurzer Zeit ’ne Weltkarriere hingelegt. Jetzt fragt man sich ja: Passen die auch wirklich zu Dieter Bohlen oder gibt’s da vielleicht doch die ein oder anderen Reibereien?
Yes, it’s a really big deal. We’ve also just seen it: Those two managed to have a worldwide career in a really short time. Now the question is: Will they really also be a good match with Dieter Bohlen or might there be some issues here and there?
Kena: Na ja, ich meine, die haben vier Nummer Eins Hits gehabt, die haben sechs Millionen Platten weltweit verkauft und ich denke, die können schon ’n Gegengewicht zu Dieter Bohlen sein. Und die bringen halt so ’ne neue Sichtweise. Die Sichtweise des Rocks und die Sichtweite vielleicht auch von ’ner jüngeren Generation da mit rein und ich meine, Bill hat auch selber Casting-Erfahrung. Der war mit 16 selber mal Teil einer Casting-Show. Weiß also wie dieser… wie man mit dem Druck umgeht in der Öffentlichkeit, unter dem Licht der Scheinwerfer sozusagen erwachsen zu werden. Also, der kann, kann durchaus viel Verständnis auch für die Kandidaten entwickeln.
Oh well, I mean, they’ve had four Number One hits, they’ve sold six million records worldwide and I think they can definitely act as a counterbalance to Dieter Bohlen. And they’re just bringing a new point of view to the table. The rock [music] point of view and maybe also the point of view of a younger generation and I mean, Bill himself has got some experience with castings. He was part of a casting show aged 16 [nb: Bill took part in Star Search in 2003, so was younger than 16.]. Therefore he knows how this… how to deal with pressure in the public eye, [and] what it’s like to grow up in the spotlight so to speak. Meaning, he can, he can definitely establish lots of understanding for the candidates as well.
Woman 1: Das wird auf jeden Fall spannend, aber Bill und Tom sind ja nicht die einzigen neuen Jury-Mitglieder. Da gibt’s ja noch den Sänger von Culcha Candela.
In any case it’ll be exciting but Bill and Tom are not the only new members on the judging panel. There’s also the singer from Culcha Candela.
