Also note, that it might seem a bit confusing at some points but the guys were a bit all over the place while talking sometimes. You can really tell how excited they were about everything. They also used quite a few English expressions (as you would being surrounded by many English speakers all day ) which were kept in the translation.

Das ist auch die… der, der erm, erm der Boden von der ganzen Bühne ist so geil. Der hat so’n geilen grip und so. Das ist alles richtig bis ins letzte Detail… *trailing off as someone talks to him*

Camera guy: Und was fährt jetzt hier runter? Was meinst du mit Brücken?

Bill: Ja, das sind… Die hängen jetzt noch da unter der Decke, ne? Die kommen dann, erm, da runter gefahren. Und dann haben wir da… Das ist das Geile. Wir haben da auch überall noch so LED-Lichter und so. Und die kommen halt runter gefahren. Das sieht dann aus wie UFOs eigentlich. Die landen dann quasi direkt dazwischen und dann können wir halt auf die zweite Ebene gehen dann.

Bill: Georg und Tom fangen auf den Bunkern an. Also, die stehen, die stehen oben auf dem, auf dem… links und rechts dann auf ihren Plätzen. Und erm, Gustav und ich sind im Ei. Also, ich komm’ quasi der… Im Prinzip Gustav’s riser auf dem er drauf ist, der fängt ja… der wird ja von ganz unten von der Bühne fährt der ja. Das heißt, ich stehe da unten drin und Gustav ist hier und dann fährt das zusammen quasi hoch. Das heißt, ich komm’ raus aus der Bühne und Gustav fährt auf die zweite Etage.
Georg and Tom start from the bunkers. Meaning, they stand, they stand of top of the, of the… [on the] left and right on their spots. And erm, Gustav and I are inside the egg [nb They always refer to Gustav’s drum riser as the “egg”]. Like, I basically come… In principle Gustav’s riser – where he’s on top of – it starts… It rises from the very bottom of the stage. Meaning, I stand inside at the bottom and Gustav is here and it basically rises together then. That means, I get out of the stage and Gustav moves up to the second level.

Bill: Also, wir haben, erm,’n richtiges Tokio Hotel-Motorrad, erm, bauen lassen. Das gehört danach dann auch uns und erm, und ja dem… da gibt’s dann auch halt eine Szene. Das kommt dann unten aus der Bühne raus gefahren und das sieht ziemlich abgefahren aus. Also, das ist eigentlich so’n… Wir haben schon überlegt, eigentlich müsste man das in Echt auch fahren, so’n Teil, weil das ist echt fett. Das hat so’n Monster… Sieht eigentlich aus… die Reifen sehen eigentlich aus wie von so ’nem Monstertruck oder so was. Ist halt so total an die Bühne angepasst. Ich bin gar nicht sicher, ob das überhaupt zulässig wäre auf den Straßen. Ich glaub’ eher nicht.
Well, we’ve had, erm, a real Tokio Hotel motorbike built. Afterwards that’ll also be ours and erm, and yes, it… there’s also a scene with it. [when] It drives out of the lower stage and it looks pretty wicked. Well, it’s actually like… We were already thinking one should also drive a thing like that for real because it’s really wicked. It’s got like monster… Actually [it] looks like… the tyres actually look like from a monster truck or something like that. It just totally goes with the stage. I’m not really sure if it would even be permitted on the streets. I think probably not.

Bill: … dem Mikro dann…

Tom: Joah, soweit ja. Also, gitarrenmäßig auf jeden Fall, aber… Na ja, die anderen Jungs…
Yup, so far, yes. Meaning, definitely guitar-wise but… Well, the other guys…

Bill: Ich überlege, Tom… Tom, hörst du mich? Ich überlege, ob ich dann, hier bei, ihr spielt ja dieses geile outro… ne? Und ich überlege, ob ich dann mit ’nem hoop [nb ??? no idea what it is, nor how it’s spelled] riser runterfahre. Weißt du, weil das geht ja so… Hörst du mir zu? Er hört mir gar nicht zu.
Tom, I’m thinking… Tom, do you hear me? I’m thinking whether I, when you’re playing this cool outro… right? Bill *big sigh*: Ach, es geht jetzt um’n Gitarrensound wieder, ne? Das dauert ja alles so lange. Für ’nen Sänger gibt’s ja nichts Schlimmeres.
*big sigh* Ah well, it’s about the guitar sound again, right? That just takes so long. There’s nothing worse for a singer.

Bill: Es ist halt auch super schwer überhaupt da hoch zu gehen und so. Darum haben die Jungs auch Headsets dies’ Mal. Wir finden’s eigentlich nicht so cool, aber es ist einfach… macht die Sache einfacher, weil sie ja jetzt überall mitsingen und überall ja Chor einfach drunter liegt und ja, sie jetzt quasi singen müssen und spielen müssen und Tom muss schalten. Also für Georg ist es ’n bisschen einfacher. Er hat halt nur seine Keyboards noch und so, aber es ist schon so… Sie haben schon mehr zu tun als sonst, auf jeden Fall.
It’s also just super difficult to even walk up there and so on. That’s why the guys also have got headsets this time. We actually don’t think it’s that cool but it’s just… [it] makes it easier because they’re singing all the time now and there’s also choir underlying everywhere and yes, they basically have to sing along now and play and Tom has to switch [using his foot pedals]. Well, it’s a bit easier for Georg. He’s just got his keyboards and so on but it’s really like… They really have got more to do than before, in any case.

Camera guy: Alles heile?

Gustav: Joah. Alles heile bis auf ich.
Yup. Everything fixed except for myself.

Bill: Ich würd’ gern mit dem hoop riser auf die Bühne fahren, würd’ mich dann gern zu WBMW unter der Bühne umziehen und dann über der Treppe hier wieder hochkommen, weil ich gerne bei World, wenn du das dann spielst, bei dir stehen würde. Weißt du wie ich meine?

Camera guy: Also, du hast keine Notleiter nach unten?
So you don’t have an emergency ladder to get down?
Gustav: Ich habe… *looks around* … erm, ich weiß es… persönlich weiß ich’s nich’. Also eigentlich müsste ja ’ne Notleiter, wenn denn, hier stehen. Und spontan könnte ich mich dann wahrscheinlich an diesem dünnfaserigen Netz hier festhalten oder so, womit ich dann die komplette Bühenbekleidung runterreißen würde.
I’ve got… *looks around* … erm, I know… personally I don’t know. Well actually if there was an emergency ladder, it would be standing here. And I could probably spontaneously hold on to this thin- fibrous net or so which meant I would tear down the entire stage decoration.

Camera guy: Gibt’s hier oben dann irgendwie auch so’n Stützturm irgendwie? Kannst du, wenn dann irgendwas ist…Wenn’s brennt oder so, kannst du dann irgendwie runter? Ich mein’…
Is there something like a support tower up here? In case anything happens could you… If there’s a fire or so, could you get down somehow? I mean...
Gustav: Daran wird noch gearbeitet.

Tom: Das einzige ist dann bis alle wieder… hier ist dann meine letzte Position. Hier oben. Und danach schließt sich das Ei und dann müssen Georg und ich auf dieses, erm… auf den Podest von Gustav mit drauf damit sich das ganze Ding runterfährt. Weil sonst müssen wir hier runterklettern. Das sieht aber alles das Publikum nicht, ja? Und alle Sachen, die man bedenken muss. Da sieht man mal wie aufwendig so ’ne Scheiß-Show ist. Ich kann mir das alles gar nicht merken. Ich hab’ überall Positionen wo ich wann wie stehen darf… Frei ist man nicht mehr! So viel kann man sagen.

And afterwards the egg closes and Georg and I have to [be] on top of this, erm… on Gustav’s platform as well so that the entire thing descends. Otherwise we have to climb down here. The audience doesn’t see any of this, right? And also none of the other things that one has to consider. That shows just how complex such a sh*t show is. I can’t keep all of that in my mind. I’ve got positions everywhere where I’m allowed to stand when and how… There’s no freedom anymore! That much can be said.

N24 [nb TV channel] documentary: Heavy transportation documentary about our egg. Tokio, erm, Tokio Hotel Bill’s left egg [nb “eggs” are German slang for “balls” so referring to “testicles” in this case] [on tour] throughout Europe.
Bill: Wollten die das nicht mal beglei-…? Wollte uns nicht mal wer begleiten?

Georg: Ja ja. Yes yes.
Bill: Ja. Yes.

Georg: Erm, wir proben gerade das Ende der Show. Das ist ja immer das wichtigste auch.
*pause* So wenn wir uns nich’ genau zum richtigen Zeitpunkt an den richtigen Ort bewegen, funktioniert das komplette Ende nicht und wir haben ’n richtiges Problem. Oder wir tun uns richtig weh.
Erm, we’re rehearsing the end of the show right now. That’s always one of the most important things as well.
*pause* Like, if we’re not moving to the right place at exactly the right point of time, the entire ending won’t work and we’ve got a real problem. Or we’re really hurting ourselves.

Tom: Das obere Teil vom Ei fährt erst wenn die Brücken oben sind. Und jetzt müssen wir uns gerade re-… erm, erm… [re-]programmen sozusagen und das so einstellen, dass man den Deckel auch zufahren kann, wenn die Brücken noch am Fahren sind sozusagen. Ja. Ja, das war jetzt gerade das Problem und das dauert jetzt wieder ’ne halbe Stunde wahrscheinlich.
The upper part of the egg only moves when the bridges are up there. And now we have to re-… erm, erm… re-programme so to speak and have to set it so that it’s possible to also close the cover when the bridges are still moving so to speak. Yes. Yes, that was the problem just now and now it’ll probably take another half an hour [to sort out].

Camera guy: Hast du zwei Umkleideräume?
Have you got two changing rooms?
Bill: Ja, ich brauche, ich brauch’ zwei, weil ich, erm, quasi ab und zu da oben dann reingehe, wenn ich, wenn ich auf der Bühne im Set mich umziehe und ich komme mit dem Motorrad zum Beispiel ja dann von unten. Das heißt, ich muss dann auch einen unter der Bühne haben. Und das schöne ist ja diesmal, das wir ja wirklich halt ’ne ganz eigene Bühne mithaben. Das heißt, man kann überall lang laufen und wir können das da unten alles nutzen. Und wir haben ja auch noch so’n paar Überraschungen bei den Zugaben drinnen wo ich dann auch noch mal unten sein muss. Und erm, ja, das ist ganz gut. Also… Ist halt das Schöne, wenn man ’ne eigene Bühne hat, weil man kann alles natürlich so optimal bauen, wie man’s braucht und muss sich an nichts anpassen und das ist schon echt richtig geil.
Yes, I need, I need two because I basically go inside on top of there every now and then, when I, when I’m getting changed inside the stage set and then I come out of down there for example with the motorbike. That means I also need one underneath the stage. And this time the good thing is that we really have got our very own stage with us. That means one can walk around everywhere and we can also make use of everything down there. And we’ve also got a few surprises for the encores where I also have to be down there again. And erm, yes, it’s pretty good. Like… It’s just a nice thing to have when you’ve got your own stage because obviously everything can be built the best possible way, how one needs it and one doesn’t have to adapt to anything and that’s really pretty cool.
Camera guy: Hast du schon so’n paar […] probiert […] wie lang […] Zeit sich umzuziehen?
Have you already tried a few […] how long […] it takes to get changed?
Bill: Also erm, die Zeit ist knapp, darum möchte ich… Ich bin echt mal gespannt nachher beim Umziehen da ist wirklich alles auf die Sekunde ge-timed. Erm, aber es ist alles echt ganz, ganz gut designed. Also, ich hab’ immer so’n, so’n basic quasi an wo dann immer nur die Rüstungen gewechselt werden und so. Und erm, ich hab’ zwei Leute, die mir dann immer dabei helfen und ich glaube, das, das müsste alles klappen. Also erm, das sieht ganz gut aus. Wir haben das auch alles so gepackt, dass wir die ganz aufwendigen am Anfang der Show haben und erm, zwischendurch die schnelleren und so. Und ich hab’ das natürlich auch so’n bisschen songabhängig gemacht und so und erm, ja. Jetzt haben wir doch mehr changes als wir eigentlich geplant hatten.
Well, erm there’s a short amount of time, that’s why I’d like… Later on for getting changed everything is timed to the second so I’m really curious [about it]. Erm, everything is really very, very well designed. Like, I’m virtually always wearing [something] basic where only the armours need changing and so on. And erm, I’ve got two people who are always helping me with that and I think, it, it should all work out. Well, it’s looking pretty good. We’ve also arranged it so that the more complex [outfits] are at the beginning of the show and erm, in-between the quicker ones and so on. And of course I’ve also made it a bit dependant on the songs and so on and erm, yes. Now we’ve got more changes than we’ve actually intended to have.

Georg*?*: Bill?
Bill: Ich bin hier!
I’m here!

Bill: Mal gucken, wie warm das dann alles noch mal wird, weil es ist schon, schon sehr… Meine Outfits sind alle in Kunstleder. Extra. Also wir sind total tierfreundlich. Wir haben überhaupt kein Tier verwendet, für irgendwas. Und erm… die sind halt sehr, sehr warm. Also, ich muss mal gucken, ob ich das überhaupt aushalte die ganze Zeit.
Let’s see how warm all of it will also get because it is really quite… My outfits are all made out of artificial leather. Especially. We totally love animals. We haven’t used any animals at all, for anything. And erm… they’re just very, very warm. Well, I’ll just have to see whether I can even put up with it all of the time.

Bill: Heute Nacht wird das obere Teil vom Ei noch bemalt. Also, ich find’ man sieht das jetzt hier mal ganz gut, weil da oben ist es ja jetzt noch sehr glänzend. Also so ganz neu wie’s gemacht wurde und unten ist es jetzt schon bemalt worden. Und erm, ich hab’ erfahren, dass das die Leute gemacht haben, die auch für’s Fünfte Element das gemacht haben. Ich find’ das sieht man auch. Das ist echt geil geworden. Weil wir haben ja alle Sachen. Also quasi alle Geländer, die ganze main stage und alle Sachen, auch die Außensachen und so. Das ist halt alles bemalt. Die Keyboard stands werden noch bemalt, die Boxen werden bemalt, unsere Stühle werden bemalt. Also, es kriegt alles ein, ein Look und heute Abend holen sie dann das, erm, obere Teil runter und bemalen das auch noch. Also, es ist schon ziemlich, ziemlich aufwendig alles, aber die Leute hier geben sich total Mühe und es ist echt ’n ganz, ganz tolles Team. Sieht aus als wäre es echt wirklich gerade irgendwo gelandet und hätte schon einiges durchgemacht. Ist ganz cool.

It really turned out amazing. Because we’ve got everything. Meaning, basically all railings, the entire main stage and everything, even the outer things and so on. Just all of it has been painted. The keyboard stands will still get painted, the boxes will get painted, our chairs will get painted. Meaning, everything will get one look and tonight they’ll get the upper part down and will also paint it. Like, everything is really quite, quite elaborate but all the people here try really hard and it’s really a very, very amazing team. It really looks as if it just landed somewhere and would’ve been through a lot already. It’s really cool.

Bill: Wir haben auch, erm, ’n paar Songs total anders arrangiert. Also ich glaube, wir haben erm, erm, so ein, zwei Überraschungen drinnen wo man jetzt gar nicht denkt, dass wir das unbedingt so machen würden. Aber wir wollten halt nicht alles so spielen wie’s jetzt auf’m Album ist, sondern haben echt so’n bisschen rumprobiert und haben auch ein, zwei Sachen anders gemacht und erm… ja, auf jeden Fall. Also, wir haben schon so’ne Dramaturgie drin, auf jeden Fall und ich glaube, wir haben ’n richtig geiles Ende, dieses Mal. Das sind wir jetzt gerade noch am programmieren. Aber das Ende wird auch, auch richtig gut, glaube ich.
We’ve also, erm, arranged a few songs differently. Well, I think, we’ve got, erm, like one, two surprises where one wouldn’t think that we’d necessarily do it like that. However, we just didn’t want to play everything like it’s on the album now but we’ve really tried a few things and also did one, two things differently and erm… yes, definitely. Meaning, we’ve definitely included some dramatic composition and I think, we’ve got a real wicked ending this time. We’re still programming it at the moment. However, the ending will be really good, I think.

Bill: Hast du mal über ‚’ne Gesichtstransplantation nachgedacht? *laughs*

Tom: Ja! Ich würd’s dir bezahlen.

Tom: Was wollen wir alles machen? Nase, Augen… Kinn.

Georg: Alles, wir machen alles.

Bill: Wir machen jetzt den ran-zruuu [nb run-through]. Zum ersten Mal machen wir jetzt ein Mal die Show koma-… die Show schon mal komplett durch um zu gucken, dass dann alles passt. Und jetzt machen wir auch schon mal mit den Kostümwechseln und so. Also es wird jetzt hier und da noch haken, aber schon mal so ansatzweise auf jeden Fall. Wir machen dann auch noch mal einen am 21. Einen Tag vor der Show und heut’ zum ersten Mal. Die erste Generalprobe. *to someone* Danke schön.

Tom: Joah, das Grundgefühl ist gut, aber es ist gerade alles schief gegangen, was hätte schief gehen können.

Tom: Ja, ich weiß nicht. Wenn so die erste Show gelaufen wär’, dann wär’ ich im Dreieck gesprungen hier, du. Nee, aber sonst… also, das Gefühl ist gut. Bühne ist Hammer und das Gefühl ist eigentlich gut. Muss noch ’n bisschen rausfinden wo man wann wie irgendwo lang laufen kann und so.
Yes, I don’t know. If the first show would’ve gone like that, I’d be livid, man. Nah, but otherwise… well,… it feels good. The stage is wicked and it actually feels good. I still got to work out where when and how one can somehow walk around and so on.

Camera guy: Fühlt sich das schon so’n bisschen an wie eigene Bühne?
Does it already feel like “own stage“?
Georg: Das fühlt sich komplett an wie eigene Bühne. Also erm, das is’ ei-… komplett ’ne 180-Grad-Wendung zu den erm, erm Touren davor. Also, wirklich alles, alles unser quasi. Tierisch.
It completely feels like “own stage“. Well erm, it’s a… it’s a total u-turn compared to previous tours. Like, everything, everything is basically ours. Amazing.
Camera guy: Also, es ist nicht so, dass man irgendwie nervös wird, wenn man so… Ich mein’ ihr habt ja schon viele Shows gespielt und auch ganz viele…
Well, isn’t it like one gets nervous somehow when… I mean, you’ve already played so many shows and also lots of …
Georg: Nö, es ist eher, es ist eher ’n besseres Gefühl, weil man weiß, dass in jedem venue, bei den 32 Shows, erm, die Bühne haargenau so dasteht und nich’ irgendwie mal ’n Bühnenteil anders ist oder mal was nicht so funktioniert. Es ist immer genau das. Und da kannste dann wahrscheinlich auch irgendwann, wennde richtig viel geübt hast drauf, erm, dich wirklich blind drüber bewegen.
Nah, it’s more like… it’s actually a better feeling because one knows that the stage will be exactly the same in every venue of the 32 shows and there won’t just be a missing stage part or something that isn’t working. It’s always the same. And if you’ve really rehearsed a lot, you’ll probably be able to really move around it blindly eventually.
